Inspiring the next generation of leaders starts right in our own communities—and Northern Black Hills Rotary is proud to celebrate one of its own rising stars. Gwen Winterstein, granddaughter of Spearfish Rotary President Randy Hedge, was recently recognized by the South Dakota State Legislature for her outstanding artistic achievement.
Gwen won the statewide art contest for the 3rd–5th grade age group, a competition designed to engage young students in the importance of civic participation.
Her winning design will be featured on “I Voted” stickers used in the next election—an incredible honor that places her creativity at the heart of democracy in action.
Moments like these remind us that Rotary’s impact extends far beyond service projects—it helps nurture confidence, creativity, and a sense of community responsibility in future generations.
