I would like to thank everyone in the District for the opportunity to serve as your District Governor these last two years. I hope I was able to make a difference in your club by promoting change and the opportunities that are available to you as Rotarians. Some of these opportunities are the friends you make in your clubs, the friends you make when you interact with other Rotary members, going on a Rotary Fellowship trip to some other District in the world, going on a humanitarian trip to change someone's life (and your own), going to an International convention to see the impact Rotarians make around the world and attending your own District conference.
Water is precious. It is essential for human life, wildlife, agriculture, recreation, and the health of our communities. Yet fresh, safe, and accessible water is never guaranteed unless we actively work together to protect it. That is why District 5610 proudly joined four other Rotary districts in a shared commitment to Act Today for Water Tomorrow.
Spanning five states and part of Canada, this multi-District initiative brought together Rotarians who recognized that caring for water resources cannot be done alone — it is a larger community responsibility. Across the five participating Districts, 9,600 Rotarians representing 264 clubs had the opportunity to make a collective impact through local action.
Rotary Garden at Mobridge City Park, we planted perennials, and a few annual flowers for color, added fresh mulch to brighten up the garden. Master Gardener Lori Jacobs and the Dakota 4H youth assisted in the project along with Rotarians, Jean Norder, Judy Singer and Carol Lehrkamp.
The May issue of Rotary magazine featured an inspiring story that demonstrates how a single act of service can create a lasting legacy for generations. In 1949, members of the Rotary Club of Custer, South Dakota, joined together for a remarkable undertaking. Read the story and join other District Rotarians at the Conference in October to see the Monument in Person and be part of a stimulating 2 1/2 days of fellowship and sharing.
The Brookings Rotary Club is helping local students take the next step toward their educational goals by awarding scholarships to six outstanding area high school seniors. Each recipient has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship to attend South Dakota State University this fall.
DG Bruce has had guest speakers share experiences on the many Rotary Action Groups available and how to get involved. RAGs are another way to expand our reach into communities , growing our hands for projects and our passion for doing good in the world! Finding people with "like interests" is pretty easy to do, but you do need to take that first step.

Gerry Elpert, his wife Max, and Linda Liddell were at Sioux Falls Airport from Madison Rotary to greet Darrel Simon and his daughter Deb who was his companion for the flight June 2nd at the Sioux Falls airport from the honor flight to Washington DC. Darrel served in the Vietnam War.

The Spearfish Rotary Club recently rolled up its sleeves to help keep Spearfish beautiful during this month's community cleanup effort. The project was coordinated by one of the club's newest members, Angela Smith, who organized volunteers for the monthly Beautify Spearfish initiative. Thanks to her leadership and the dedication of fellow volunteers, 15 community-minded individuals came together to make a visible difference in the area.
The Luverne Rotary Club celebrated the month of May by helping local students stay safe while enjoying the outdoors. As part of its annual bicycle safety initiative, the club distributed 74 Rotary bicycle helmets to third-grade students throughout the area.
