Happy Holidays to everyone and thank you for all you do as Rotarians! We are getting ready to start the second half of the Rotary year. Some of my plans for the rest of the year is to meet with the presidents in January to see how the clubs are doing. I hope the presidents will make an effort to attend.
I have been talking with a number of clubs about starting a companion club and a number of clubs have followed through. We are seeing some great results and maybe not as hard as was anticipated. There are countless innovators in our communities who share our value of Service Above Self. We simply need to give them an opportunity to engage with us. Some of these innovators can’t make a noon meeting so giving them another time to choose from works well. If you have any questions about starting a companion club please contact Joe Lichter; joejlichter@gmail.com; or me.
District Governor Bruce Nearhood and the District 5610 Nominating Committee are pleased to announce the selection of Jennifer Rollins of the Rotary Club of Rapid City Rushmore as the District Governor for the Rotary year beginning July 1, 2027. Congratulations Jennifer!
On November 21, the Rotary Club of Sioux Falls West embraced the spirit of giving by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of the Sioux Empire. DG Bruce Nearhood paid a visit to the Custer Rotary Club at the club's Dec. 9 meeting. Nearhood sat in on the club's board meeting and then presented to the club during its regular meeting, emphasizing the purpose of Rotary and how to attract and keep new members. At the conclusion of his presentation he was given a gift on behalf of the Custer club by club president Rob McWhorter.
The theme for the month of December is Disease Prevention and Treatment. I’m sure you are all aware of the End Polio Now campaign which has been in place for many years. We are so close to polio eradication in our world that we can’t let up now. Other efforts worldwide include combatting diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis and diabetes.
The Rotary Club of Rapid City Rushmore recently launched a companion club, allowing it to grow membership while also expanding its reach in the community. A companion club is simply an extension of an existing Rotary Club where members generally meet after hours, which enables more people to join. Rushmore Rotary is now one club that meets at two different times!
Rotary District 5610 has made a profound impact across the globe by supporting Rotary District 3120 in India with a $6,000 global grant for cataract surgeries. This initiative aims to restore vision and improve the quality of life for individuals in underserved communities.

This is a friendly reminder to update your club membership and officer information in your local country or district database by 1 January 2025. We will use this information to generate your January 2025 club invoice. It is important that your club’s member information is up to date because Rotary cannot change the club invoice after it has been generated or accept membership updates with your payment. As a current club officer, you can ensure that your club invoice will be correct by updating the information in your local database. Here is how:
