This years Roger Kozak Award goes to Jim Mollison of the Pierre-Ft. Pierre Rotary club. The award was presented by the previous winners that were present at the District 5610 Conference. Congratulations Jim, well deserved!
The Motagua River, spanning over 300 miles from Guatemala to Honduras, faces significant pollution challenges, contributing at least 3% of global ocean plastic waste. Recognizing this critical issue, Rotary International joined the "Motagua Basin Alliance" in October 2023. Collaborating with countries, organizations, and partners worldwide, Rotary is dedicated to restoring the river and safeguarding the livelihoods dependent on it.

Alcohol has destroyed many Native American lives, especially on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. For too many years, four liquor establishments in Whiteclay, Nebraska, 2 miles from the dry reservation, sold over 4 million cans of beer yearly, to local citizens. Whiteclay had a population of about 12, while Pine Ridge area is estimated to be about 3,300.
More than 50 people gathered in Memorial Park at the Berlin Wall Exhibit to unveil the Peace Pole, dedicated to peace in Rapid City. The Peace Pole is one of only four erected in the state and the effort was organized by the Rapid City Rushmore Rotary Club and Rapid City Rotary Club.
Rapid City Rushmore hosted an introductory meeting on September 30 for a companion club. It was well attended, and 15 people submitted applications for membership! Thank you to Roger Heacock, Tiffany Gikling and Heidi Bell Gease for heading up this exciting venture!

We are excited to announce the Rotary 2024-25 annual District 5610 Four Way Test Essay Contest. This contest is a great way to spread our Rotary ideals within our communities. The contest involves 6th graders who are asked to write a 200 to 500 word essay on "How can I apply the Rotary Four-Way Test to my life?" You will be amazed and excited at the perspective 6th graders have on our Four-Way Test.
Clark 2nd and 3rd graders were studying peace, acts of kindness, peace symbols and what peace means to them in preparation for World Day of Peace. Teachers and students joined the Rotary on Sept 19 to dedicate the recently acquired Peace Pole.
Several Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp attendees joined Rotarians at the District Conference in Rapid City. Rene Sorenson introduced each of them and they shared their personal experiences from the program. They demonstrated the friendships they made on and off stage! Go RYLA!!

Our club social was held on Friday, September 13th, at the Levitt in Sioux Falls. We said goodbye to Summer while enjoying an outdoor concert with music from the Colombian sextet Las Guaracheras and socializing with club members and their families.
