April’s Area of Focus is Environment. Our District is engaged in a grant to clean up, educate, and reduce waste in the Motagua River in Guatemala that supplies 3% of the plastic waste put in the ocean each year. World Immunization Week is fast approaching on 24-30 April. This is a critical time to raise awareness about the importance of immunization and the safety and effectiveness of vaccines.
Why do we believe so strongly in this? Rotary made a promise to the children of the world with the launch of the PolioPlus program in 1985 that we would eradicate polio from the world. Thanks to vaccines and the incredible support of Rotary members like you, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9%.

The Rotary Club of Sioux Falls – South has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 CORKS & KEGS Volunteers of the Year Award, celebrating their exceptional dedication to service and community impact.
On April 4 and 5, members of the Rapid City Rushmore Rotary Club and the Impact Club by Rushmore Rotary rolled up their sleeves and got to work—literally—for a powerful cause. Partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, our volunteers took part in a Bed Build to support local children in need.
Downtown Sioux Falls Rotarians will be coming together for a fun and active morning on May 3rd, as we celebrate the installation of 13 new bike racks across four key locations in the city: Rotary Park, Start-up Sioux Falls, Fawick Park, and Falls Overlook Café. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore the city, snap a photo with each new bike rack, and earn rewards along the way.
We are proud to announce that Nancy Moose, a dedicated member of from the Rotary Club of Madison, recently represented us at the prestigious Rotary Council on Legislation. Held with participation from over 200 countries, the Council convened to discuss and vote on proposed changes to Rotary's governing policies.
Thurs March 27th Mobridge Rotary Club participated in the PTO Carnival at Mobridge-Pollock School. Children from Mobridge Community played a game of Plinko to win candy or small prizes.
Members of the Rapid City Rotary Club recently demonstrated the Rotary spirit of service by volunteering at the annual “Empty Bowl” event. The event, sponsored by Volunteers of America (VOA) Northern Rockies, was held to raise critically needed funds for the Rapid City chapter.

Gary Kuchar of the Custer County Historical Society was the guest speaker at the April 7 meeting of the Custer County Commission.
