On April 17, 2024, Yankton Rotary held its 30th Annual Bicycle Helmet Giveaway project. The money raised by Yankton Rotary paid for 260 bicycle helmets which were provided to all area second grade students. A key feature of the program involves having the students attend a bicycle safety assembly including a proper helmet fitting event.

For the assembly portion, Yankton Rotary partners with medical students from the Sanford School of Medicine, Yankton Medical Clinic, The Yankton Police Department, Kopetsky’s Ace Hardware, and Yankton High School. Local Rotarians who participated fitting the helmets included Club members Mike Healy, Larry Olson, Club Treasurer Butch Becker, Club President Jamie Rounds, and District Governor Rich Burns. Providing bicycle helmets to second graders by Rotary has been going on long enough in Yankton to where the club is now giving helmets to the kids of parents who received their free helmet 30 years ago. Congrats to Yankton Rotary for sustaining such a wonderful signature project all of these years.
