What do you have when you get almost 80 sophomores, juniors, counselors and a dynamic leadership team together
at Camp Maranatha?
That’s easy – a RYLA week of total fun, making new friends, learning leadership skills, discovering the 4 pillars of Rotary and
implementing them!
Hi, I’m Rene Sorenson, your District RYLA Chair.
Last summer’s RYLA camp was held July 9-13 at Camp Maranatha. The seven students who were selected to attend RYLA from our District were:
- Isabel Crosgrove – Le Mars
- Bryce Bowman – Pierre/Ft. Pierre
- Ireland Templeton – Pierre/Ft. Pierre
- Roman Zandstra – Rapid City
- Ayden Calvert – Watertown
- Katie Leadabrand – Watertown
- Hailey Syhre – Watertown
The excitement and energy these seven campers came back to their communities with was unparalleled! They learned the 4 Pillars of Rotary, what Rotary is all about, how Rotary impacts their community, state, nation and world and how THEY can be a part of it.
For example, Isabel from Le Mars is starting and Interact Club in her school because of RYLA Camp and the support from the Le Mars Club!
The Watertown students (Ayden, Katie and Hailey) are starting a service project to collect warm clothing for those in need, and
Roman in Rapid City is also spearheading the collection of hats, scarves and coats to place on the statues downtown (as traditionally

Just imagine MORE of our District 5610 sophomores and juniors armed with this knowledge of Rotary, coupled with their energy and enthusiasm … just THINK what could transform in their schools and communities and beyond all stemming from a transformative week at RYLA camp!
RYLA Camp 2024 is shaping up to be a camp not to be missed! Start thinking about school counselors to contact or sophomores and juniors in your community who would like to apply.

Cost: $450 per student to be paid by your Club (*once the student arrives at camp, your club will be reimbursed 50% of the cost per student).
