Harvest Season Is Here—and So Is Our Chance to Celebrate Service! 🌟

As autumn paints the world in brilliant hues and fills our skies with abundance, we’re reminded of the heart of Rotary: Service Above Self. This season, we proudly shine a spotlight on those who embody that motto in extraordinary ways.
One of the most meaningful ways we do this is through the Roger Kozak Award—a tribute to individuals whose dedication uplifts entire communities.

Last year’s honoree was Jim Mollison of the Pierre-Fort Pierre Rotary Club, whose impact continues to inspire. Take a moment to explore Jim’s incredible contributions to Rotary and the community he serves so passionately. His story is a powerful reminder of what one person can achieve when service leads the way.

Let’s celebrate the spirit of giving—and those who make it their mission every day!

ROGER KOZAK
SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD
JAMES B (Jim) MOLLISON

I would like to nominate Jim Mollison, a member of the Pierre-Fort Pierre Rotary Club, for the Roger Kozak Service Above Self Award. Jim has been a member of Rotary since the early 1990’s and has distinguished himself as a Rotarian in many ways.

Jim joined Rotary when he retired as president of South Dakota Concrete Products and his first engagement was as a member of the club’s Board of Directors. He was club President in 2004-2005, and following his term, was appointed Assistant Governor for Area two, serving two terms. He regularly attended District Conferences and also attended an RI conference. He served as chair for the club foundation committee for several years, and set an example for his club through achieving multiple Paul Harris Fellowships, and is a major donor to the Rotary Foundation.

Jim has provided leadership and served on virtually every major Rotary/community project, including the demolition and rebuilding of the Southeast Pierre Community playground, now known as Rotary Park, fundraising for the Rotary project of furnishing a new walk-in cooler and freezer of the Fort Pierre Community/Youth Center, building of “discovery town” in the South Dakota Discovery Center, installing new playground equipment at Firemen’s Park, designing and building the new treehouse at the South Dakota Discovery Center, and the annual fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club. He was instrumental in the establishment of an art gallery, featuring the airplanes of local military heroes.

Beyond Rotary, Jim has served on the Board of Capital University Center and was a major donor for a new building.  He was a major donor for the building of the new Boys and Girls Club and is an on-going supporter. Jim has served on the Pierre Economic Develop Corporation board of directors, including chairman of the board. During and following the local three-month flood of 2011, he led a committee that coordinated services to impacted people in the community, while he and his wife were displaced from their home.  Jim has truly dedicated his life to service above self.

Respectfully,
