April’s Area of Focus is Environment. Our District is engaged in a grant to clean up, educate, and reduce waste in the Motagua River in Guatemala that supplies 3% of the plastic waste put in the ocean each year. This is one of the ways that YOU are helping the environment. Is there a project in your community or around the world that could use your help to save the environment? Continued reading for an update on PELS coming up, our District Assembly, and the Membership goal this year.
April 26 is our annual President Elect Learning Seminar (PELS). It will be held all over the District and on Zoom. You are welcome to attend even if you’re not the president elect. Contact your club president if you are interested in attending. Information can be found on the District website under events. www.rotary5610.org.
April 26 is also our District Assembly. The link is under events on the District website. It is the same one as for PELS. We will be voting on next year’s budget and a request to have a $5/member/year for 3 years to help in planning for the Rotary International Convention in Minneapolis in 2028. I have received many positive comments about helping with the convention in this way. In addition, I encourage you to consider going to the convention. It won’t get any closer!
Finally, there is only a little over 2 months left in the fiscal year. The Membership Committee has asked each club to be +1 this year. What have you done to reach that goal? Remember how you joined Rotary—you were asked! Why is it so difficult to ask a friend if they would like the opportunity to give back to their community and world? Talk to them about what they can get by being a member of Rotary. What other organization gives you the opportunity to make a global impact, make community connections, experience personal and professional growth, be a part of something bigger, have hands-on service and learn something new every week? Only ROTARY INTERNATIONAL!!
